Downsizing LUTs from 65 to 33 cube size in Davinci Resolve
Downsizing LUTs from 65 to 33 cube size in Davinci Resolve
Today we are going to cover how to downsize LUTs from 65 to 33 or even 17 cube sizes in order to use them in a camera or separate dedicated monitor.
Why do we want to do that in the first place? Well…sometimes certain cameras or monitors, cannot handle large cube sizes and simply won’t display certain LUTs that’s been loaded in the system, therefore we “downsize” the LUTs in order to make them work. One thing to keep in mind is that downsizing may be somewhat beneficial to load into the system, the side effect may be that it won’t represent color fidelity correctly. Also, very important, that upscaling smaller size LUT cubes will not be beneficial in any way.
Step 1 – Let’s open Davinci Resolve (works both PC and MAC)
Step 2 – Create a project and load any clip into your timeline. I recommend timeline size to be a minimum of 1080p, a 4k timeline would be optimal.
Step 3 – Select and apply LUT that you want to downsize to the clip you have loaded into the timeline

Step 4 – Right click on the clip that you just applied the LUT in the timeline and select GENERATE LUTs and choose your desired size.

That’s it! Save it to your folder or external drive and you good to go!
